How to remove blank pages from a scanned or merged PDF

Where blank pages come from

Double-sided scanning is the biggest source: every single-sided sheet in the stack produces an empty back page. Merged documents add more, since many exports end sections with a blank page so the next one starts on the right. The result is a file that is longer than it needs to be and awkward to read or print.

How blank pages are detected

Each page is rendered and its share of white pixels is measured. A page that is at least 99% white is treated as blank, which catches empty scanned backs that carry a speck of scanner noise without touching pages that hold even a short line of text.

Before downloading, the preview shows the result next to the original so you can confirm nothing important was dropped. If a document deliberately contains blank pages, for example to keep chapters starting on a right-hand page in print, remove blanks from a copy and keep the original for printing.

Quality of the remaining pages

Removing pages does not touch the pages that stay. They are copied without re-encoding, so text and images keep their original quality, and the exported PDF has no watermark.

Private, in-browser detection

Blank page detection runs entirely in your browser; your document is not uploaded to a server. Very large scans may take a little longer on older devices because the analysis happens on your machine.

A clean-up routine for scanned documents

Remove blank pages first, then rotate any sideways pages and reorder with Organize PDF. Crop away scanner borders if needed, and run the result through Compress PDF, since scans are usually large. If you need the text to be searchable, finish with OCR PDF.
